It’s a remarkable recovery for this new edition of the Geneva 20km by Genève Aéroport with more than 4,200 registered. Even the sun was out this Sunday, November 7 to celebrate this great return and witness this record participation.

The 2,063 participants in the 20 km took off at 8:30 a.m. from the Quai du Mont-Blanc and challenged themselves solo or in pairs on this route between town and countryside. The Tanzanian Emanuel Gisamoda, who broke away at KM 7 without ever letting his competitors return, dethrones the winner of the previous edition, Tadesse Abraham. Emanuel took the event record in 59'09 ahead of Tadesse Abraham, second in 59'28 and Dominic Lobalu, third in 1h00'34. Emanuel looks back on his victory: “the weather conditions were perfect and conducive to a record. It was my first 20 km and I am very happy with my performance”.

On the women's side, the princess of Stade Genève, Helen Bekele, scored a double victory by winning the race in 1h07'05 and taking the women's event record. The adopted Genevan was delighted at the finish line with her victory at home in front of her audience and her family.

In addition to the solo format, riders could choose to participate as a duo. This still popular format has delighted more than one. The victorious team, made up of a father and son, finished in 1h07'51.

Later, at noon, the start of the 10 km races was given. 2,207 runners and walkers took off in this equally popular format. As in the 20 km format, records for both women and men were broken.

It was the Swiss Marcel Berni who won the event in 31'14 and the Frenchwoman Jess Anand who finished first in 39'30.

Among the athletes, the Moroccan ultra-trailer Mohamed El Morabity as well as the Swiss Julien Stalhandske were, respectively, the hare and the guide for the blind Francisco Taboada who finished the race in 39'45. “It’s a dream to race with teammates like that. They have my blind trust. They are long-time friends and I am happy to have finished this race with them” said Francisco after his race.

To show their support for the Breast Cancer Network, a pink march was organized where more than 305 participants took part dressed in pink.

A friendly and festive atmosphere reigned on the Quai du Mont-Blanc on this sunny November Sunday. Benjamin Chandelier, director of the event, delighted with this new edition and these sporting exploits, wanted to thank all those involved in the edition. “On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I thank the competent authorities and administrations of the City and Canton of Geneva for their support, all of the municipalities crossed by the route (Pregny-Chambésy, Le Grand-Saconnex, Bellevue and Genthod), as well as Genève Aéroport and all our other partners for their help and trust. Without forgetting the 300 valuable volunteers who mobilized for several days to contribute to the success of the event. »
