#20kmGeneve

A HISTORIC AND WORLD-CLASS EDITION FOR THE 5TH EDITION OF THE BALEXERT 20KM GENEVA

A participation record with 5,189 runners and walkers over the two distances offered: 20km and 10km

  • Dominic Lokyniomo Lobalu (SSD) in great form, won in 58mn15sec (7th best world performance of the year over the distance) and beats the record of Emmanuel Gisamoda (TZA)

  • Helen Bekele (ETH) once again dominates the 20km in 1h06min32sec and beats her own record (best performance in Europe of the year and 3rd world performance)

  • Nearly 17,000 CHF were raised and a symbolic Pink March organized to support the cause of the Breast Cancer Network

The Balexert 20km of Geneva celebrated the 5th edition this Sunday, November 6. And as a symbol for this anniversary date, 5,189 participants met on the Quai du Mont-Blanc to carry out their autumn challenge of the year between Geneva city and countryside in the different formats offered.

What will be remembered is the great victory of Dominic Lokyniomo Lobalu, who had an excellent sporting season this year and performed again this weekend. After a victory on May 15 during the Generali Geneva Marathon Half-Marathon, Dominic won again on Geneva soil in 58mn15sec and beat the event record over the 20km distance (7th best world performance of the year over the distance). Helen Bekele did not tremble and emerged as the big winner in 1h06min32sec in front of her audience and beat her own record (best performance in Europe of the year and 3rd performance in the world). In the 10km, it was Despréaux Julien (33min21sec) and Leroy Anaïs (36min54sec) who won among the men and women.

The team spirit and sharing was also there with the 20km and 10km relay format. Finally, the 10km distance once again offered a Walking and Nordic Walking event, popular since its beginnings. And if you were there, you surely saw a touch of pink among the participants who decided to support the Breast Cancer Network (RCS), the charitable partner of the event. When the podiums were handed over, two symbolic checks were given to the RCS representing nearly CHF 12,000 in donations made by participants during their registration as well as a check for CHF 5,189 in donations from Balexert.

Benjamin Chandelier, director of the event, is very happy to close this 5th edition after the arrivals of the last participants: “I would like to thank the authorities and the competent administrations of the City and Canton of Geneva for their support, all of the municipalities crossed by the route (Pregny-Chambésy, Le Grand-Saconnex, Bellevue and Genthod), as well as our new Title Partner - Balexert - and all our other partners for their help and trust. A big thank you to the 300 valuable volunteers who mobilized over several days to contribute to the success of the event. Finally, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, I congratulate all our participants for taking up the fall sporting challenge this Sunday, November 6.

The Organizing Committee looks forward to seeing you on November 5, 2023 for the 6th edition of the Balexert 20km of Geneva. You can register on the waiting list to receive exclusive information.
